Pleated Cellose PL Hilco Microgard

  • The PL series (Pleated Cellulose) under the Microgard™ label features a three-layer filtration media construction:

    • Outer layer: cellulose media for coarse filtration

    • Middle layer: glass-media for micro-filtration

    • Inner layer: cellulose media for support.

  • Uses controlled-radius pleats, which maximize usable filtration area and dirt-holding capacity, while resisting pleat bunching, distortion and rupture. 

  • Built with rugged end-caps and center-tubes for durability; typical collapse pressure approx. 100 PSID.

  • Designed for maximum service temperature up to approximately 250 °F (≈ 121 °C).

  • End-caps and support components: disposable cartridges often feature molded urethane end caps on smaller sizes, with plated metal end caps available on larger sizes.

  • The Hilsorb cartridge is designed for combined water-absorption and particulate removal in one element, offering a means to remove free water plus fine solids from fluids.

  • Employs a patented four-ply construction (for the PD variant) built for high capacity water and solid removal.

  • Engineered with low initial pressure drop and high flow rate capability, with the design also featuring an increasing pressure drop when the water-absorbent media nears saturation—giving a sort of “service signal.

  • Constructed for use with hydraulic, lubricating, insulating and fuel oils where moisture and contamination removal is critical.

  • Provides extended service life by combining water-absorption and particle filtration in one element—reducing the need for separate components. 

  • Helps maintain fluid integrity: by removing free water, the filter supports maintaining dielectric strength and preventing corrosion or sludge formation in oils.

Dry Resin ION Exchange Cartridge

  • Designed to reduce total acid number (TAN) in phosphate-ester, mineral and synthetic fluids, thereby mitigating varnish formation and oxidative degradation. 
  • Employs “dry” ion-exchange resin (the Opti-Dry™/Dry-E™ formulation) with controlled expansion technology to safely expand when loaded with acid/water without bursting. 
  • Offers significantly higher acid-scavenging capacity compared to competing adsorbents: about 7 × the capacity of fullers’ earth and ~3 × that of the Selexsorb™ line under certain conditions. 
  • Designed as a “treatment” cartridge rather than just a mechanical filter: it removes ionic contaminants, acids, water, and helps restore fluid condition rather than merely capturing particulate matter.
  • Extended fluid life: By reducing acid TAN and removing reactive species, the cartridge helps delay fluid replacement and minimize varnish/sludge formation.

Manufactured by HILCO (via Hilliard Corporation) with decades of experience in coalescing systems rated for high flow capacities—up to ~1,500 GPM (5,700 LPM). 

  • Typically installed as part of a coalescer/separator housing or system, often paired with final particulate filtration to restore fluid condition. 

  • Suitable media and design allow for high efficiency in removing moisture and providing dry, clean fuel or oils—reducing water-related contamination, corrosion, microbial growth, and fouling.

  • Improved fluid reliability: By removing free water and entrained moisture, the cartridge helps maintain fluid integrity, reduce corrosion and prolong component life.

  • Designed for gas/seal-gas and turbine-oil systems, the HILCO gas coalescing & separator cartridges are built to remove both fine particulates and liquid contamination (water, oil) from gas or vent streams. 

  • High removal efficiencies: some HILCO filter/separator systems show >99.98% removal of liquid contaminants and 99.99% removal of solids in the 0.3–1 µm range for gas/steam turbine lube oil applications.

  • Flexible configurations: available in simplex or duplex arrangements, various flow capacities, custom builds for high pressures, high temperatures (some up to ~500 °F / 260 °C) for gas service. 

  • The cartridge versions are designed to work within HILCO filter/separator vessels or coalescer units — media and cartridge designs are optimized specifically for gas / seal-gas and turbine lube oil coalescing/separating service.

  • The anti-static cartridge incorporates conductive fibers co-pleated between two layers of high-performance microglass filter media, enabling the element to dissipate static charge buildup before a discharge can occur. 
  • Available in every standard HILCO media grade code, so you can select the same micron rating and compatibility as other HILCO cartridges but with the anti-static feature.
  • Designed with the same robust construction as other HILCO pleated cartridges—pleated microglass media, controlled-radius pleats, durable endcaps/support structure—so it delivers filtration performance plus static discharge protection.
  • Enhanced safety and reliability: By dissipating static charge within the filter media rather than allowing it to accumulate and potentially discharge, the cartridge helps reduce risk of sparking, equipment damage or fire hazards in fluid systems.
